“We have hectic workdays. It is easy to forget an important date – especially when it is a small part of a long contract. We don’t want contracts to terminate or renew automatically. Complete Control helps us follow-up contracts properly, evaluate whether we are getting value, and then decide next steps.”

Anne Tandberg, Finance Manager

King Oscar is a tradition-rich seafood company from Norway whose roots date all the way back to 1873. In 1902, King Oscar II offered the company his name due to the love he had for its products.

There’s been many changes over the 120-year history, but the company’s attention to quality remains the same.

At King Oskar, every product starts with the fisherman. Close co-operation along the supply chain is essential for operational efficiency and quality output.

Today the company has approximately 500 employees working in Bergen, Svolvær, Poland and USA - and it is 100% owned by Thai Union, a global seafood leader.

The business Challenge

Finance Manager Anne Tandberg focuses on efficiency and cost control as part of her role and is passionate about building transparency and sustainability into the work culture.

King Oscar Group has several legal entities and production at remote facilities, requiring that finance processes balance between central control and decentralized decision-making.

Before Complete Control was installed, local contract managers had to remember to follow-up supplier contracts on their own and there were local paper archives partly in place. A missed deadline could impact production, efficiency and costs.

“We have hectic workdays. It is easy to forget an important date – especially when it is a small part of a long contract. We don’t want contracts to terminate or renew automatically. We need to follow-up contracts properly, evaluate whether we are getting value, and then decide next steps.”

Another challenge was that supplier contracts were filed on local servers at various factories and office locations.

“I didn't have a centralized overview when contracts were signed, who was the contract owner, or where they were stored. This meant we were dependent on individuals doing these contract processes diligently – and that puts us at risk. Who was going to follow up and make sure we get full benefit of the agreement if someone leaves the company or gets sick?”

A third problem was the risk of overlapping contracts.

“Different sites enter into agreements. The company is growing. It’s possible we can extend existing agreements, instead of entering into new and potentially less attractive ones."

the Solution

To solve the problem, King Oscar AS stopped storing contracts locally and implemented Complete Control for centralized contract management.

“We were looking to upgrade and digitalize our contract management routines when House of Control contacted us. The timing was perfect.”

Complete Control simplifies work, helps the company control costs, and gives King Oscar greater visibility into supplier relationships.

“What used to be a somewhat static and random process is now fully co-ordinated between multiple locations and people. Complete Control keeps everything structured and running smoothly.”

It was important that Complete Control could send notifications and help finance proactively follow up contracts.

“One of the biggest advantages is the dashboard that shows me every contract coming up for renewal or review. Company-wide, we can evaluate contracts and stop unwanted renewals before the invoice arrives. That’s a good feeling,” concludes a satisfied Anne Tandberg.
